New Medical Condition Keeps Mets Pitcher Paul Blackburn On The Shelf

New Medical Condition Keeps Mets Pitcher Paul Blackburn on the Shelf

Mets News

Medical Condition

Mets pitcher Paul Blackburn has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain. The injury occurred during Blackburn's start against the Phillies on Saturday.

Blackburn is 6-6 with a 4.28 ERA in 17 starts this season. He has been one of the Mets' most consistent starters, and his absence will be a blow to the team's rotation.

The Mets have not announced who will start in Blackburn's place. Manager Buck Showalter could turn to David Peterson or Tylor Megill, both of whom are currently in the bullpen.

Mets Rotation

The Mets rotation has been one of the team's strengths this season. Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer, and Chris Bassitt have all been excellent, and Blackburn has been a solid fourth starter.

However, the Mets have been without Carlos Carrasco, who has been on the injured list since May with a torn hamstring. Carrasco is expected to return in August, but his absence has put a strain on the rotation.

The Mets are currently 56-46, and they are in first place in the NL East. However, the Braves are just one game behind them, and the Mets need to stay healthy if they want to win the division.

Outlook

Blackburn's injury is a setback for the Mets, but they have enough depth in their rotation to cover his absence. Peterson and Megill have both shown promise in the bullpen, and they should be able to fill in adequately as starters.

The Mets are still in a good position to win the NL East, but they need to stay healthy and avoid any further injuries to their rotation.
