Under-19s Bow Out of UEFA Youth League After 3-1 Away Loss
Nwaneri Scores Consolation as Gunners' European Hopes Dashed
Arsenal U19s' run in the UEFA Youth League came to an end on Wednesday evening after a 3-1 defeat away to PSV U19s. Despite going into the game knowing that they needed a win to progress, the Gunners were unable to overcome their Dutch opponents.
PSV took the lead in the 15th minute through Johan Bakayoko, and doubled their advantage just after the half-hour mark thanks to a goal from Ruben van Bommel. Arsenal pulled one back shortly after the break through Ethan Nwaneri, but PSV sealed the victory with a third goal from Ismael Saibari in the 75th minute.
The defeat means that Arsenal finish third in Group A, behind PSV and FC Zurich, and will not progress to the knockout stages.
Despite the disappointing result, there were some positives to take from the game for Arsenal. Nwaneri's goal was his second in the UEFA Youth League this season, and the 15-year-old continues to show great promise.
Overall, it was a disappointing end to Arsenal's European campaign, but the young Gunners can take heart from some of the performances they produced in the competition.
